Dr. Michael Paparella, an Internationally-recognized ENT physician and researcher, brings his expertise to MN Ear & Sinus Center.


Dr. Michael Paparella earned his B.S. and M.D. at the University of Michigan. After serving in Europe, he became a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School. He then when on to become a faculty member at the Ohio State University.

From 1967 to 1984, Dr. Paparella served as Professor and Chairman of the University of Minnesota’s Department of Otolaryngology. He remains involved with the University of Minnesota and is the director of the Otopathology Laboratory at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Paparella left his Chairman position at the University of Minnesota to found the internationally-recognized Paparella Ear, Head & Neck Institute at which he practiced until July 2020. Dr. Paparella has actively practiced otology (care of ears) and otolaryngology (ears, head and neck) for 50-plus years.

As the founder of the International Hearing Institute, Dr. Paparella remains active in research and education, having published more than 720 articles and 65 books. Additionally, Dr. Paparella has trained hundreds of ENT physicians over the course of his career. His clinical practice and research have helped countless patients who have incapacitating Meniere’s disease or severe chronic ear infections among other conditions.

Currently, Dr. Paparella is working on an international book designed for the global audience of ENT physicians. Dr. Paparella was named as one of the “Best in the Field of Otolaryngology” in Mpls. St. Paul Magazine, Minnesota Monthly, as well as Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors® for over 20 years.
